On 3 February 2025, we completed the second stage of the call for applications for the pilot project “Urban Lab – City for the Young” for 2024-2029.

We are happy to announce that 8 Polish cities have qualified for the project, which will develop their Urban Labs and work on innovative solutions for and with young residents!

Every city has its challenges – from the exodus of young residents to changing social needs. How to solve them? Through action! “Urban Lab – City for the Young” is a project through which in selected Polish cities spaces are created for cooperation, experimentation and active involvement of young people in the life of their communities, without forgetting the rest of urban stakeholders.

Bydgoszcz, Toruń, Zielona Góra, Lublin, Kielce, Opole, Szczecin and Rzeszów are already working vigorously on their Urban Labs – places where young people will be able to co-create solutions for their city, meet with authorities and develop their civic competencies. A number of activities will be implemented as part of the project, among them: Urban Cafe – a space for dialogue and meetings between young residents and local government, Urban Prototyping School – a place to test innovative ideas, Academy of Young Leaders – a support program for future city leaders, STEAMedu – creative education for young constructors and innovators. The project is aimed at young urban residents, but open to the entire local community. Each city will tailor the Urban Lab to its unique needs and challenges – “tailor it to its own size.”

The “Urban Lab – City for the Young” project is being implemented at the Institute for Urban and Regional Development, in cooperation with the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy. We hope that its results will inspire more cities in Poland!

The project is co-financed under the Technical Assistance for European Funds 2021-2027 programme.
