We are proud to announce that URBAN LAB – IRMIR Urban Innovation Laboratory has been awarded in the prestigious Smart City Awards competition, as part of the Smart City Forum, which is one of the most important nationwide events dedicated to modern cities and technologies of the future. The award ceremony took place on 11 June 2025 in Rzeszów-Jasionka.

The Smart City Awards is a competition aimed at promoting innovative projects, strategies and solutions that support the development of smart cities. The awards recognise initiatives that:
- increase the competitiveness of the economy,
- support technological development,
- have a real impact on the quality of life of residents.
The competition is open to local governments, companies, institutions and organisations implementing the smart city concept. Entries are evaluated by an independent Competition Jury composed of experts and recognised practitioners in the fields of technology, innovation and city management.
The award for URBAN LAB in the Smart City Solution category is a recognition of its consistent work in promoting urban innovation, social dialogue and co-creation of spaces that respond to the real needs of residents:
URBAN LAB was recognised in the Smart City Awards competition in the Smart City Solution category for creating a unique platform for cooperation between local governments, the private sector, academia and residents to implement innovative urban solutions. Through the organisation of workshops, hackathons and pilot projects, Urban Lab actively supports the development of smart cities, contributing to the creation of more functional, sustainable and friendly urban spaces.

We, the IRMIR Urban Lab Team, see this award as motivation to continue our work! 🙂 All the cities we had the opportunity to work with on the implementation of urban labs made a huge contribution to receiving this award: Urban Lab Lublin, Urban Lab Bydgoszcz, Urban Lab Zielona Góra, Urban Lab Kielce, Toruń City Laboratory, Urban Lab Szczecin, Urban Lab Opole, Kato Science Corner x Metrolab GZM, Racibórz, Stalowa Wola, UrsynLab and, above all, Urban Lab Rzeszów and UrbanLab Gdynia.
We would also like to thank our most important partner, Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy, which several years ago placed its trust in our project and decided to finance Urban Lab pilot as a tool for improving the quality of life of city residents in line with the smart city concept, which is being continued as part of Urban Lab – City for Young People project.
We would like to thank Smart City Forum for their recognition and warmly congratulate all the winners!
